Η σκολίωση είναι μια κατάσταση κατά την οποία η σπονδυλική στήλη καμπυλώνεται ανώμαλα, είτε προς την αριστερή είτε προς τη δεξιά πλευρά. Αυτό μπορεί να οδηγήσει σε πόνο, δυσκολία στην κινητικότητα και μειωμένη πνευμονική λειτουργία. Ένας τρόπος για τη διάγνωση και την παρακολούθηση της σκολίωσης είναι μέσω της χρήσης ενός σκολιόμετρου, μιας συσκευής που χρησιμοποιεί τη βαρύτητα για να μετρήσει τη γωνία καμπυλότητας της σπονδυλικής στήλης.

Έρευνες έχουν δείξει ότι η χρήση μιας εφαρμογής σκολιόμετρου σε φορητή συσκευή μπορεί να είναι αποτελεσματική στη διάγνωση και την παρακολούθηση της σκολίωσης. Αυτές οι εφαρμογές χρησιμοποιούν το επιταχυνσιόμετρο και τους αισθητήρες γυροσκόπιου στη συσκευή για να μετρήσουν με ακρίβεια τη γωνία της σπονδυλικής στήλης, επιτρέποντας πιο βολικές και αποτελεσματικές αξιολογήσεις σκολίωσης.

Μελέτες έχουν επίσης δείξει ότι η χρήση μιας εφαρμογής σκολιόμετρου μπορεί να βελτιώσει την ακρίβεια και την αξιοπιστία των μετρήσεων της σκολίωσης, καθώς και να μειώσει το κόστος και τον χρόνο που σχετίζονται με τις παραδοσιακές συσκευές σκολιόμετρου. Αυτό καθιστά τη χρήση μιας εφαρμογής σκολιόμετρου ένα πολύτιμο εργαλείο για τους παρόχους υγειονομικής περίθαλψης και τα άτομα με σκολίωση.
